Worried about gaining any weight back?</p><p>Doing the HCG Diet gave me a new lease on life. It gave me back my sense of self and who I am. I found out that I could lose weight and I didn&#8217;t need to go to a psychologist and spend years figuring out why I was so overweight. You don&#8217;t have to do some rigorous exercise program or start running. You can do this diet and you can keep the weight off. The HCG Diet is a miracle diet in many ways.</p><p>But, I think those three weeks of maintenance are crucial. You don&#8217;t need to count calories. Just cut out starches and sugars&#8230;Yeah&#8230;&#8221;just&#8221;&#8230;it&#8217;s not so easy. And check the scales every single morning, to keep on track. Those three weeks are so important for resetting your hypothalamus to a new weight&#8230;a new set point.</p><p><strong><span
id="more-215"></span></strong></p><p>1) When you get to the end of the HCG Diet, you do your last dose of hCG, however you are doing it, shots or oral/sublingual, etc., and then you continue for 2 more days with the VLCD (very low calorie diet) while you wait for most of the hCG to get out of your system. You will continue to lose for those couple of days after the last hCG.</p><p>2) Then you can eat whatever you want EXCEPT for no sugars or starches, which basically means, no cookies, no crackers, no desserts, no flour, no pasta, no spaghetti, no breads, etc. As long as you do that very carefully for 3 weeks, you should be able to keep at your last diet weight, or within 2 pounds. If you go up 2 pounds, you should do a steak day, as described in Pounds and Inches. It is very important to keep your weight in that range for those three weeks to re-set your hypothalamus and &#8220;set point,&#8221; so that you keep the weight off.</p><p>Have you ever heard about the saying, &#8220;If you want to lose weight, just cut out the white foods?&#8221; My doctor told me that years ago. I wish I had followed his advice, because I may never have gotten so overweight in the first place. I&#8217;d just had my first baby and he told me to cut out spaghetti and potatoes. It seemed too simple and also, too hard raising a family. So &#8220;white foods&#8221; are things like white sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes, white bread. But, just during maintenance. It&#8217;s not forever.</p><p>I have no way to prove this, but I suspect the hCG doesn&#8217;t entirely leave your body as fast as 2-3 days after the diet. I think that is another reason why the three weeks after of no sugars or starches is so important. Dr. Simeons warned to add fruits carefully, because of the natural sugar, weighing every day.</p><p>3) If you do gain, be sure and do the steak day. According to Dr. Simeons, that is the one best thing you can do. id="body"><p><strong>HCG Diet Foods</strong></p><p>The widely known four main components of the HCG diet consist of: 1) a low fat meat protein source; 2) a vegetable; 3) a fruit; and, 4) crackers or breadsticks. These four categories primarily represent two of the three food groups, i.e., protein and carbohydrate. All of them are either low fat (meat, vegetable, fruit) or no fat (crackers).</p><p>Recommended meats are obviously the sources of protein. The other three categories are sources of carbohydrates. They are allowed either as whole foods (vegetables, fruits) or in very limited amounts per meal (crackers).<span
id="more-173"></span></p><p><strong>Making Dietary Fat and Carbohydrate Work Together</strong></p><p>The low carb part of this protocol is crucial for keeping the liver from becoming saturated with stored carbs. A carb-saturated liver converts excess carbs to triglycerides that go back into the bloodstream and eventually into storage in fat cells. Neither of these outcomes is healthful when excessive.</p><p>The hormone phase of the HCG diet keeps the amounts of dietary fats and carbs low so the hormone can direct the removal of stored body fat. This would not happen without low dietary fats and carbs. This also explains why cosmetics and skin products that contain oils can undermine fat metabolism.</p><p><strong>HCG Diet Foods for Lifetime Weight Management</strong></p><p>The food choices themselves are excellent for a lifetime of healthy eating in many respects. Examples include sugars, starches, and processed carbohydrates from all sources, especially those from wheat and rice. It is that simple.</p><p><strong>The Problem With Protein</strong></p><p>This food group is routinely ignored in almost all weight loss diets, at least as far as worry about any effects on weight gain. Arguments instead revolve exclusively around the roles of fats and carbs. Protein, however, does play a role in maintaining body fat. This is a complicated topic that deserves articles by itself. However, here is what more than 50 years of research shows very clearly: You will live a long and healthy life if the amount of protein you eat constitutes as little as 5 percent of your total calories.</p><p>Excess protein is, indeed, a problem. We eat too much of it, especially from animal-based foods.</p><p><strong>Good News For An HCG Vegetarian Diet</strong></p><p>You do not need a dedicated protein source at all. The typical sources of protein for vegetarians (beans and grains) would not work during the protocol because of their high carb content.</p><p>However, you can get all the protein you need from spinach. The good news is that you can eat all the spinach you want and never disrupt your progress during the HCG protocol.
